I tried to do a perfect take so many times, but this was my best one. It'll have to do until I do my full orchestration, lol. Enjoy! |

The Sorcerer by Herbie Hancock - AC-Guitar Solo Acoustic guitar solo playing "The Sorcerer" by Herbie Hancock, another master piece by Herbie, though it is quite difficult to make musical sense out of it playing as acoustic guitar solo, I tried it anyway. I've listened to several versions of his albums, Speak Like A Child, Miles's Sorcerer album, VSOP, and his quartet etc and among them, the version in Speak Like A Child seems to be the only version stick with theme's chord progression (I'd rather say tonal design within 16bars form) during solo choruses, other versions seems rather free improvisations at a time based on beginning voice of DbMajor, melodic ideas from theme and basic 16bars structure. Even trying to stick with harmonization for the theme to improvise on, soon or later ended up in free improvisation anyway since those chords are just nice sounds and punctuations to move music forward, and those were typical approach of the last Miles Davis quintet, basically it is a chromatic music. However, no matter what, one must swing really hard in order to make sense out of those style of compositions during improvisations. Here's quite accurate transcription of this piece and it is good enough for you to get it started to learn this song. http://www.lucaspickford.com/transsor... |
